Who is Beat It for?
People living with, or at risk of, diabetes or other chronic lifestyle conditions who want to increase their physical activity levels.
Whether you have exercised before or need some help getting started, the Beat It program will tailor individual exercises to your specific needs within a friendly and supportive environment.

To participate, you must be able to commit to the 8 week program
(2 sessions per week).
Classes start slowly and build up as you become fitter, stronger and more confident.
Exercise professionals tailor specific exercise programs to each individual based on your needs.
This program is run by exercise professionals who have undertaken training with Diabetes NSW & ACT.
What’s involved?
The 8 week program includes:
- An initial one-on-one assessment with an exercise professional
- Exercise program tailored to your abilities and fitness levels
- 16 group exercise sessions (2 per week)
- Education sessions on various healthy lifestyle topics
- Tracking your progress
- Final consultation.

Beat It is an evidence-based program which incorporates the proven benefits of aerobic exercise and strength training in maintaining good health and managing chronic conditions such as diabetes.

How do you access the program?
Are you living with diabetes and registered with the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS)?
If you answered yes - you can access the program for FREE. Please visit our events calendar for upcoming programs in your area.
If you answered no - you are eligible to access a private Beat It program. There are a number of Beat It trainers who offer private programs across NSW, ACT and QLD. These programs typically incur a small fee to access. You may be able to obtain a Medicare referral from your GP to subsidise the cost of accessing the program. Discuss this with your trainer prior to joining.
If you have diabetes and are not registered with the NDSS - speak with your doctor, it is free to join the NDSS and you will gain access to a range of services, information and subsidised products. (For more information visit the NDSS registration page).
Is there an age restriction on who can participate?
Anyone over the age of 18 can participate in the Beat It program. The program is designed to meet your personal needs and can be modified according to your current level of fitness and physical capabilities.
Do you need medical clearance to participate?
To ensure your safety and ongoing good health, anyone with or at risk of diabetes and other chronic lifestyle-related conditions will require medical clearance from their General Practitioner prior to participating in the program.
Can you exercise with diabetes?
Yes you can

If you are living with diabetes and registered with the NDSS, visit our event calendar to view our NDSS funded programs.
Alternatively, if you are not eligible for a free NDSS funded program you can contact one of our Beat It Trainers who may be running a private program in your local area.
